What went wrong with iPhone in India?

Apple is still living in No Mans Land when it comes to mobile wireless solutions. The iPhone only has a cosmetic value and is no match for even 1202 as explained by our buddy Renegade Fanboy. I also agree that marketing is a major part of product sales but you should market a product that actually is made for the 21st Century. Thus, sloppy marketing coupled with no add on service also made iPhone’s Death easy. I mean watching a 1950 black and white movie in today’s world is okay for a few occasions but not that you can live with everyday. On top of that you are restricting users to stay glued to a particular network and that too at a very high cost which is total stupidity. Apple guys if you are reading this then I hereby declare your marketing team as the dumbest of all. This is India and Welcome to our world. This is the reason why I did a quick article on India’s Mobile Telecommunication Sector. Without knowing your consumers you stand no chance. Wake Up Apple!

Following will tell you what Apple did completely wrong:

1. Too high a cost for a dumb device
2. Silent Marketing and No Users Involvement
3. Locked to a fixed number and service provider
4. No after sales support
5. No online support
6. No out-of-the box multimedia experience
7. Lastly Launching a device boasting of 3G in a country that still does NOT support 3G Networks

So it was obvious for people to look for options. I have a couple of friends who got their device from US and then unlocked it for using it with Indian cellular service providers. But on a whole India still awaits for a touch device, the question is can Nokia 5800 XpressMusic be it.

Well for now I would like Nokia to keep in mind that we here in India would like you to:

1. Keep that Price Tag as low as possible
2. Have a complete out-of-the box multimedia experience
3. Better Nokia Care Services
4. Please ask your China production unit to uplift its build quality for products (you don’t know how many mails I have been getting of poor build quality of devices made in china)
5. A Robust Marketing campaign for the same (Still missing here in India) + User Involvement
6. We are sure looking forward to CWM service, so please bring it down here too

What we know that 5800 has a very promising OS and being the first of its class we are also prepared for a few flaws it may have but at the most please make sure that the firmware issues are solved before the device starts shipping as many a people here hardly update their firmware. And at last we look forward to a great launch event for the device here.
