Sorry folks as for sometime now I had been through a very sadistic part of my life and was totally unable to blog and keep you all updated with the latest stuff or my personal reviews on various topics. Having bought the all New Black Nokia E90 for a staggering amount of Rs 40,000 (appx. $ 1000), it had not even been a month that my joy ride came to an abrupt stop. Having done a review here and giving a verdict of thumbs up, I now take my review back and give it a big thumbs down. It has been a very disappointing experience in all as now I am completely paralyzed and unable to use my E90. The build quality of the high end Nokia Phones has now been buried and all you can expect now from them is nothing less than a piece of garbage. (I know these words sound hard, but I guess this is what you would say when you see your hard earned $ 1000 burn to ashes in front of your very own eyes).

What went wrong?
I was so happy to have my all new Black Nokia E90. I took care of it like it was my baby. Never had I man handled it or even for that matter closed the device with force. But lately I started hearing funny noises (with play) in the hinges. I asked the Nokia Care center it was a symptom of any underlying major problem but all they said that it was okay and a normal phenomenon.

I have been using cell phones for long and I knew that this play and noise was not normal so I took my E90 to another Nokia Care center, 60 miles from where I live and they too came up with the same response. I was very much disappointed with the reply I got and nevertheless had no choice. So I came back and after a few days I got conditioned to the defective device. I tried to live with it but I really couldnt.

I had already made a post about the inefficiency of Nokia Care centers in our part of the world and as I had never had an experience within one (until now) I came to realize the real situation. The people sitting behind are simply stupid and dumb. They hardly know anything about Nokia devices or cell phones in general.

The day came when my fear became a real thing. All of a sudden the inner big screen of my E90 was gone blank. Hola..! I tried again. I closed the lid and opened it again to see if I had not missed something. It was gone. The inner screen was DEAD. I was so stunned. For a moment I thought that my battery was out so I plugged it in and switched off the device, to see if the problem persisted. And yes it did. I was deeply hurt to see my E90 like this and at the same time furious at Nokia.

So, I made a quick trip down to Nokia Care center and told them my story. They were not at all surprised to see this and reckoned that they would have my device working in ONE WEEK..! I thought to myself, seven days with out my cell. I asked what they think the problem was. They told me that the connection of the inner LCD display might have been broken which passes through the hinges. This is when I realized that these people probably have no knowledge of what so ever. I recalled the earlier time when I stepped in to tell them about the funny noise and play in the hinges to which they said was normal.

On further investigating the problem I realized that I was not only the only one. As much as 200 Black E90 were lying in the care center, and all with different problems. My eyes were wide open when I saw the guy say this. I asked what problem the other devices had. They guy told me a whole list of different problems and all these E90 were new, some were out of the box and some a few months old like mine. Looks like there is something going in the background that Nokia is hiding. Maybe a whole batch of E90 was defective and Nokia didnt do anything about it, rather than just sit back and make profit.

My investigation with these problems is still on way and I will post about them in my next post. But at present the reality is that my month old E90 is gone or putting it in other words I have lost $ 1000 just on the fact that Nokia is compromising quality on its high end phones and at the same time providing in efficient Care services. I would like to thank Vaibhav of The Symbian Blog for making a mention of my present problem.

I know a lot of you have had problems, so please feel free to share them. I would also love your comments on my situation here.

I wanted to write about this for quite sometime now and today i finally laid my hands on my computer for a writing session. It has been 8 hours and my server ws down so i would like to appologise to all my users for the inconvinience this may have caused them but any how we are back on and rolling.

All of us have now or then drove past by a Hoarding in the market that says “Nokia Care“, some of us may also have been inside for reasons of their own but i for a reason have still yet to step my foot inside one. I recently came across a piece of news from my friends at Nokia Conversations about the Exceptional service Nokia Care Has to Offer in Karachi, Pakistan. The article was Titled “Nokia Care goes east“, dated 26th May 2008 and it had following to say

KARACHI, Pakistan – The latest Nokia Care centre to roll out opened its doors in Karachi this week. The opening was celebrated with a “glittering” event at the Ebrahim Trade Towers.

Alongside the usual facilities offered by Nokia Care centres around the world, local Nokia users will be able to check the status of their warranty, simply by sending an SMS with their IMEI number. This is a neat little touch which we reckon could do well to roll out everywhere.

To read the whole story Click Here>>

As you expect we do have public opinion on things and so we did one for this by Narendra Singh, rather a strong reaction of which he concluded to say Goodbye to Nokia. We don’t know from where he is, but presuming that he is from Karachi as well this is what he had to say,

Hi friends,

I want to share my experience with NOKIA cell phones with you and want to ALERT you regarding the drastic drop in it’s quality in recent years.

The Nokia that once upon a time was famous for it’s quality and thus managed to get a upper hand than other player is now not the same.

Here are my experiences and sure that I am not the only one:

1. I bought a Nokia 6670 and after 1 year it’s keypad started giving some problem ,I took it to NOKIA care ( bigest mistake) they told me that there was some problem with keypad and they fixed it and charged me around Rs 300 but after one week same problem came again and after a long struggle they were ready to repair the phone again but again the same thing and after 2 weeks it again had the same problem. I thought that Nokia care center …..[...]

Many of my friends and blog users have experienced the above problem but fortunately they have been helped by Nokia Care. (I live in India and i am all satisfied with the service in My Region – i.e. Punjab) On the other hand i do believe that some Nokia Care Center’s are not up to the mark when it comes to delivering service as in his case.

But We as consumers need to be at our toes when we step into a Shop to buy something, cell phones in this matter. Following are a few ways in which you can ensure that you buy the right product.

A few tips when you buy a New Nokia Phone:-

1. Get it from an authorized Nokia Dealer (i knw it is a few $$ expensive but its worth)

2. Upon purchase get your Invoice Or Bill from the Dealer. (trust me it is very handy)

Before you leave the Store…

3. When you have bought the device, OPEN THE BOX in the DEALER OFFICE to make sure the contents inside are correct. Check the device for any anatomical flaws

Next,

4. Insert the Battery and Switch on the device to make sure that the device is working properly. (just to be extra careful Check the battery code on the Nokia Website to see if it is original)

5. Check the Serial No. by pressing *#06# on home screen to double check.
The above steps should solve a lot of problems new buyers have. These things are helpful as once the phone leaves the office, it is you who are responsible for it NOT the company. Many people use there phone in a rather Brutal way and end up in the Nokia Care complaining. Well things are not just easy for you or for the Nokia people.

The Other Side of the Story

In these developing Nations a Lot of people i know tell false stories to avail the benefits of FREE replacement, So i feel Nokia People are RIGHT in a way to be extra Strict. So as in every other coin, this too has two sides.

Following is a Poll, which i feel will get your opinion on the story.

Note: There is a poll embedded within this post, please visit the site to participate in this post's poll. Please take a moment and leave a comment and give your perspective of the view point.
