Publish Content With the Same Name in Ovi Store

Sherwin Pao has shared with us an amazing post on how you can publish your content even if it has a similar name to other content. He explains us of a solution to this problem which we might face in Ovi Store with the purchase of our content if we try to publish two different content files in Ovi Publish with the exact same naming convention. If we attempt to publish two different content files with the same name, the end user may experience a problem when attempting to purchase or download your content from OVI Store to their device.

Here are some scenarios and suggestions on how to ensure users discover and download the right content.

Scenario 1:

Content A has binary name flash.nfl Content B has binary name flash.nfl Possible problem: The User downloaded Content A first, then download Content B. If this is the case, Content B will overwrite Content A on the user’s device.

Scenario 2:

Content C has binary name picture.jpg Content D has binary name picture.jpg Possible problem: The User downloaded Content C first and there is no option available to download Content D because the buy button is replaced in Ovi Store by an open button as picture.jpg is already detected on their device.

Here’s a solution

When you upload the file, attach either a random number or content ID number to the end of the file name, ensuring each piece of content has a unique naming convention. This will avoid any problems in Ovi Store with purchasing or downloading the content.
