Bringing financial mobility is not a new thing but Nokia Money service is a little different. Announced at the Nokia Press event at Mobile World Congress 2010, we caught up with Gerhard Romen, Nokia’s Director for Alliances to give us a picture of the vision Nokia has for the future of financial services offering by Nokia. In partnership with YES BANK, a commercial pilot of the global mobile financial services initiative has started in Pune, one of the largest metropolitan areas in India. The service in Pune, called Mobile Money Services by YES BANK, brings financial services to the consumers’ mobile devices.

“The Nokia Money initiative based on Obopay’s platform is initially targeted at growth markets and designed to work in partnership with multiple network operators and banks, involving distributors and merchants in a dynamic open ecosystem to seamlessly provide the new services. YES BANK is our first partner in India to bring this service to market,” said Teppo Paavola, VP and general manager of Mobile Financial Services at Nokia.

To sign up, visit an authorized agent, show any identity card and fill in a simple form. (You can upgrade to the Easy Send account at any time, by providing the requisite documents).

How To Get Started?

Step 1: Visit your nearest mobile money retail agent or any Yes Bank branch.

Step 2: Choose the product you want and complete the registration process.

Step 3: Decide your access channel for activation.

Step 4: Activate your account through the temporary mPIN.

Step 5: Change your mPIN.

Step 6: Load money on to your mobile.

Step 7: Check account balance by SMS and receive confirmation before leaving agent location.

Step 8: You can now start carrying out transactions.
