Ovi Share Comes To An End

May 14th, 2009 | 6 Comments | by Carlos Silva | Share

Nokia has announced that its media share service Ovi Share will come to an end soon. Official spokesman have said that Nokia will just stop investing on this service, but the website will keep running. This means you don’t have to worry because you won’t loose your stuff. They appoint some of the reasons as the strong competition from other media share websites as Flickr and Facebook.

It’s a pitty, I guess so. I am a regular user of this service, for photos storage, videos, between others, and I think that it is much more safe and efficient than some of the other famous services. What do you think?

Why spend money and replicate something that's already available for free to all your users? Sound strategy in recessionary times. Lets all go an increase Nokia's presence in flickr photos. :-)

I didn't really take Share on Ovi too seriously, so I didn't upload many pictures (actual count: 2). I had a feeling it was going to eventually die out. Although I do use Ovi for my contacts and calendars, but I had primarily used Google for it. Although I love Nokia phones, unfortunately, I don't rely on Nokia for their web services too much.

    @ Andy Pho,

In the beggining I didn't take it too seriously too, but when I started using I realised that it was an efficient website, and now Ovi has a lot of services, which turns it even more attractive because its all in one.

Heres a copy of my article over on Nokiausers about this..

I for one, have been using Ovi Share since its launch, and have given it more than a fare chance to do well, plugging it whenever possible, mentioning the unlimited online storage for all your Photos, and Videos etc, but this recent article I came across this morning, has really put a spanner in the works. It saddens me to read it.

Ok, the article, we will get to that in a moment, it states that Ovi Share will continue to run, “as is”. Basically, what that means, is Ovi Share will run in its current state, with no backing from Nokia.

Whats sad, is Ovi Share had so so much potential, it really did, so why throw in the towel now Nokia? Why? Being as its tied in with the Brand, OVI, is this not a bad move on your part? Would it not of been a more realistic plan to of implemented the site further, and integrate it with its competition, free, or paid for? Adding sharing options across platforms?
