Nokia Chat Evolves To Contacts On Ovi
Soon after Nokia Beta Labs got its new look, Kristian made official that Nokia Chat is gone forever. Don’t be scared, it has now been adapted with the OVI umbrella service to make way for Contacts On Ovi. Essentially its the same service as the Nokia Chat but, its oriented to most of the feedback that we users have been providing. The best part is that now it covers a huge list of device support from S60 3rd Edition FP2 to S40 devices to maemo. We are yet to see a client for Nokia 5800 XpressMusic (S60 5th Edition) but I guess we will see one soon. Following are a few screenshots.

Following is what you can do with Contacts on Ovi:
- Chat: Send instant messages and enrich them with smileys, voice and location messages.
- Presence: At a glance you can see if your friends are available, busy or on the phone.
- Enhanced presence: You can let your friends know what you are listening and broadcast your important scenes.
Don’t know why guys at beta labs are calling it a graduate of Nokia Chat when its still a beta. Anyways, more development will follow. Share your thoughts on what you feel can be added or tweaked.
Good News is the Nokia Chat friends are with you when you sign on to Contacts on Ovi mobile client and it works with your existing Nokia Acocunt. And Yes, you can chat with Nokia Chat users still after you’ve installed the Contacts on Ovi client.
