Nokia N97 Vs Nokia 5800 XpressMusic

December 3rd, 2008 | Comments | Posted in Featured | by Ani

I had a little time today so I decided to do a tabbed comparison between the upcoming S60 based touch devices that Nokia is going to offer in December & Q1 2009. The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic a Non-Nseries phone which was the first touch S60 device announced earlier this year at the Remix Event in London, which will target the mid-caps with a descent set of features and on the other hand we have the Nokia N97 which was just announced yesterday at Nokia World 2008 in Barcelona is expected to cost a hefty sum but nevertheless it has some solid features to offer. I am still preparing my thoughts on N97 an will update you all really soon. Be sure to bookmark this post as I will be updating it with the latest information as I come across it. If you have a few things that you think are missing then go ahead and leave a comment and I’ll have them up at the earliest.

At present 5800 is priced at Rs 21k and the N97 at 35K. There is a difference in the home screen as well. In N97 the home screen will have widgets but the 5800 will not. I’ll add more info as I come across.

i get this phone already!!it was awesome! (=
  • My q is ngage for 5800.. flash lite and speed of switching to camera... is it fast or slow like n73..
most of the times the thing i want to take pic of is gone.. many natural instances wont repeat... but in sony ericson it can be done as its fast..
and 16 gb is huge.. but compared to n 97 its tiny!!! lolz... omg!!

i have n73.. i am satisfied with it . except the lagg for camera.. i heard 5800 laggs a lot on finger touch respond.. is it true??
me gonna purchase it . if it responds quick to touch.. or my n73 wl go another 2 years.. i also put ngage in my n73.. more fun.. though the new os update has that glitch back of " needing to restart the mob to call..or wont dial" sheesh.. previous version was the best!
  • p.s i found ur article the best... but i need moooore info.. more more more... cause i wanna purchase...
of all the searchin i done.. this was the best ever.. thanks

Dudes if u want to show u have touch phone go for nokia 5800 but it was not as comfort as HTC TOUCH or I PHONE...

I suggest HTC touch is far better than nokia 5800 for slim and touch softwares. except GPS, 3G, good camera in 5800

Nokia is named for user friendly but this phone lacks

it didnt have scroll navi key a big disadvantage... scrolling with fingers is very hard. touch screen is not as smooth as HTC or Iphone..

music it was normal not mind blowing..

If really want this phone go ahead otherwise wait for N97 which have qwerty key pad with navi keys

I used this phone for 2 days and returned the phone for its hardness and bulky in the pocket..

    waiting for N97...
  • Rajesh buddy.
    Watch out.
N97 is going to be bulkier & heavier.
For all the game lovers, please dont buy 5800 since it doesnt have a 3D chip.
Dont hope for Ngage compatibility on 5800 since it is way too slow in 3D tests to handle Ngage apps & games.
For playing games, either buy iPhone 3G or Nokia N95 8GB.
Surprisingly, N96 is not as good as N95 8GB in this context.
Also beware, this phone has a mere 379 Mhz processor against iPhone's 524 Mhz super-fast processor.
Also after 3 and a half months of its launch, there are very less apps available for the S60 V5 TOUCH OS.

    just love my 5800...

    Hi guys,
I'm using actually a Nokia E71 for instant emailing and qwerty keyboard, however i observe one unpleasant thing is the bad visual comfort for internet browsing as everytime i have to scroll (horizontally)from left to right on a website page
Does the N97 and 5800XM has a screen(about 640px width) which fits automatically to a website page? I thinks it's the one of the small details Nokia must correct towards the perfect mobile phone. I think not many has put emphasis on Nokia phones S60 for web-browsing. And finally, 5MP camera is not outdated? It's already 3yrs since original N95 has had a 5MPcamera and why not a 8MP like the N86?
  • @ Vineet

I don't know what might it be, but why don't you try to install another internet browser on your 5800 device? Opera Mini does it very well. At least it does on my N78. ;-)

guys... what ever you hear on the pro's about the phone ...don’t get carried away.. from the first day I started facing issues.. the display was slightly tilted on the right hand side...when I switch on the phone it defaults on Landscape mode in spite of the fact that I was using the phone in portrait mode.....

if u doing something on the phone and then u receive the call the call gets disconnected..... and guess WHAT ....

I went to Nokia service center and showed them the bugs.. they acknowledge that there is an issue in the phone ...

still they refused to replace it... can you beat that NOKIA REFUSED TO REPLACE THE PHONE EVEN thought the phone was faulty from the very first day... I mean its ridiculous.....

They said there is an issue but was not sure how to rectify it.. and now they need the phone to test on wht is the issue...

This clearly shows that they have released the phone is a rush ..to counter the i phones in the market... without even testing it thoroughly...

I had registered on the nokia music site ...and seriously struggled to even get the software started... the software is so heavy... and I guess it needs super high processor and 10 GB ram i guess...

Any ways...all in all the phone features are good .. provided it works as described... and promised... how I feel NOIKIA has tried to promise more and are now struggling to deliver it...
  • reee
what phone exatcly are you talking about?????

Fuck. my mum & dad both bought 5800. ZOMG me wanna toooo =)
  • AK
the dot after fuck seemed to small and had me over see it.. and left me scandalized and shell shocked...
  • Sam
does the N97 have an on screen keyboard aswell ???? like the 5800????
  • vaqar
what is the audio sound quality of n97 through headphones compared to n91 (The king of sound) and n96 (the queen of sound)?????
  • well...n97 is better than 5800...it has 32 gb internal vs 81mb(lol,but the 5800 comes with 8gb card)...5mp camera vs 3.2 in 5800...434mhz cpu vs 369mhz...and a qwerty keyboard...everythin else is basically the same...the price of 5800 is like half of n97 too..
