ATTN Nokia – E66 And E71 Need Some Tweaking
I am using the E66 at present and have been testing it to the full. It has a lot of things (and I mean a lot) that can transform you into a total Eseries lover. The top most being its overall build quality and speed, so till I get on with my review, I found a few things that I want Nokia to take a immediate note of. I would be highlighting a simple thing that I feel can transform user experience, well at least my for sure. There are 3 keys that at present are paralyzed in some sense. (This is applicable to the E71 as well.) These are the two volume keys along with the Mute/Unmute or Speech Command or Push To Talk key on the upper right side of the device. I want to address this issue in context to the 1. Native Mailbox Use (Both E71 & E66) and 2. Camera (In case of E66).

1. Native Mailbox Use (Both E71 & E66)
I have been using the device regularly for checking my mails. Not only on the Eseries but on the Nseries as well. So why am I only writing about this tweak for the Eseries, well simply because the three button layout is unique to E66 & E71. At present when you are checking your mail, you cannot use these keys in any way. What I want Nokia to do is to make these keys usable by giving it the function to navigate and read selected mails. The idea is simple, allow the volume keys to move up and down through the mails and allow the PTT key to be able to open the selected mail. The following picture will hopefully project my thoughts more clearly.

This would sure make checking and reading emails more easy. I think this use can be incorporated into the Nokia Email client as well. (Now if you are thinking what would happen to the PTT function, well Indian networks don’t support PTT as yet, but im sure guys at Nokia will find a way through this
)
2. Camera (In case of E66)
The E66 camera viewfinder appears like a viewfinder of a regular / digital camera. With the camera key on the right side of the device, which is used to click, the volume keys can be put to use by allowing them to Zoom in and Zoom out. I agree most of us don’t use this function but there is no harm in providing this function per se. Lets hope Nokia is listening to us. The following picture will relate to what I am pointing at.

If you guys have any of these two devices and would want some tweaks to be done which would make your way around much easy do let share them with us. Also tell what you all feel about the two points that I made above.

Like you sais, it’s not a function that 95% of us won’t use, but it’s something that already should come with the devices. About the E-series, I am a E-series device owner and I got some friends who own a N-series devices, and wouldn’t give up of my device for a N, the build quality is far better and you don’t have “bugs” problems, like it happens sometimes using the N series.
Plus, the design is much more elegant and simple.

The PTT is not a standard setup on s60, so I don’t see that happening, but the volume keys should be usable in many cases (camera, maps etc), I agree Ani.
(BTW, I didn’t know it until now, but it gives a tiny satisfaction, if you see your name in a review screenshot
