Zip & Switch Functionality – Device Switching Made Easy
Buying a new device can be an amazing experience but at the same time the thought of installing all your favourite applications and customizations from the start can be grueling. Not to mention the contacts list, calendar entries, bookmarks, pictures, videos, music etc. The same thing happened with me when I got my E71; I was jinxed between euphoria and depression something like a bipolar disorder or simply Mania. I had no choice but to start from scratch. But I had something cooking up long before in the anticipation of switching my device so I had just the trick that got me ticking. So here is a quick peek to how easy it is now to switch between devices.
Switching Between Nokia Devices or Intra-Nokia Switching

The best and the most hassle free way to transfer your Contacts, Calendar Entries, Media, Settings, Bookmarks etc is via Switch Application. You can find this application in the Menu>Tools>Utilities
This application makes use of the Bluetooth of the device and lets you transfer your data free of charge between compatible devices. I have tried this between E51, E90, N82, E71, N95 8GB and E66 and it works well. Only catch is that the transfer is via Bluetooth so media files may take longer to transfer.
Switching Between Non-Nokia Devices or Inter-Nokia Switching

The easiest way to do this is via the Synchronization tool in PC Site application which gets your contacts synchronized with MS Outlook (Windows Users) or Address Book (Mac Users). Then using the PC application of the other device make you can resynchronize your New phone with MS Outlook to have the same Contacts and Calendar Entries. (Note: Media cannot be transferred using this method, so use Bluetooth or copy to PC and then to the new Phone)
The Zip Connection

Now for Getting those software’s and customization themes back, all you have to do is to use the Power of the “Zip” Application. I hardly know anyone who uses the zip application. I reckon it as a very powerful tool. Not only it compresses your data but it also stores it all at one place.
To reach Zip go to Menu>Applications>Office there you will find the Zip application.
All you have to do is to collect all your favourite applications and themes .sis or .sisx files to one folder and convert it to a Zip archive and transfer it to you phone.
Next using the Zip application you can install them all in real quick time. You can give the following Zip file a try and see how easy it is to carry your software around with you.
Contents of the Zip File are:
1. FlipSilent
2. Y-Browser
3. Sports Tracker
Thus, you have all your data in your New Phone. Please let me know if you have a cooler way to switch devices.

a cooler way?? Hmmmm, Ive always found it easier to just re-sync rather than use switch… but then my laptop may be more up-to-date than my cell. Also using an app to auto reinstall my .sis files makes things easy. (AutoSisInstaller)
