Nokia E90 “A Big No”
August 23, 2008 – 11:03 am | by Ani

Sorry folks as for sometime now I had been through a very sadistic part of my life and was totally unable to blog and keep you all updated with the latest stuff or my personal reviews on various topics. Having bought the all New Black Nokia E90 for a staggering amount of Rs 40,000 (appx. $ 1000), it had not even been a month that my joy ride came to an abrupt stop. Having done a review here and giving a verdict of thumbs up, I now take my review back and give it a big thumbs down. It has been a very disappointing experience in all as now I am completely paralyzed and unable to use my E90. The build quality of the high end Nokia Phones has now been buried and all you can expect now from them is nothing less than a piece of garbage. (I know these words sound hard, but I guess this is what you would say when you see your hard earned $ 1000 burn to ashes in front of your very own eyes).
What went wrong?
I was so happy to have my all new Black Nokia E90. I took care of it like it was my baby. Never had I man handled it or even for that matter closed the device with force. But lately I started hearing funny noises (with play) in the hinges. I asked the Nokia Care center it was a symptom of any underlying major problem but all they said that it was okay and a normal phenomenon.
I have been using cell phones for long and I knew that this play and noise was not normal so I took my E90 to another Nokia Care center, 60 miles from where I live and they too came up with the same response. I was very much disappointed with the reply I got and nevertheless had no choice. So I came back and after a few days I got conditioned to the defective device. I tried to live with it but I really couldn’t.
I had already made a post about the inefficiency of Nokia Care centers in our part of the world and as I had never had an experience within one (until now) I came to realize the real situation. The people sitting behind are simply stupid and dumb. They hardly know anything about Nokia devices or cell phones in general.
The day came when my fear became a real thing. All of a sudden the inner big screen of my E90 was gone blank. Hola..! I tried again. I closed the lid and opened it again to see if I had not missed something. It was gone. The inner screen was DEAD. I was so stunned. For a moment I thought that my battery was out so I plugged it in and switched off the device, to see if the problem persisted. And yes it did. I was deeply hurt to see my E90 like this and at the same time furious at Nokia.
So, I made a quick trip down to Nokia Care center and told them my story. They were not at all surprised to see this and reckoned that they would have my device working in ONE WEEK..! I thought to myself, seven days with out my cell. I asked what they think the problem was. They told me that the connection of the inner LCD display might have been broken which passes through the hinges. This is when I realized that these people probably have no knowledge of what so ever. I recalled the earlier time when I stepped in to tell them about the funny noise and play in the hinges to which they said was normal.
On further investigating the problem I realized that I was not only the only one. As much as 200 Black E90 were lying in the care center, and all with different problems. My eyes were wide open when I saw the guy say this. I asked what problem the other devices had. They guy told me a whole list of different problems and all these E90 were new, some were out of the box and some a few months old like mine. Looks like there is something going in the background that Nokia is hiding. Maybe a whole batch of E90’s was defective and Nokia didn’t do anything about it, rather than just sit back and make profit.
My investigation with these problems is still on way and I will post about them in my next post. But at present the reality is that my month old E90 is gone or putting it in other words I have lost $ 1000 just on the fact that Nokia is compromising quality on its high end phones and at the same time providing in efficient Care services. I would like to thank Vaibhav of The Symbian Blog for making a mention of my present problem.
I know a lot of you have had problems, so please feel free to share them. I would also love your comments on my situation here.

Why is your $1000 gone? Presumably they are going to fix it aren’t they? Under warranty?
Also, seems strange that you say they “have no knowledge of what so ever” but later you say they have 200 phones there…
My e90 is coming up to a year old now. Problems are:
-squeaking back case - apparently common.
-screen scratched by keyboard too high.
Hey DPB,
well, on an earlier occasion when i approached them about the play and noise, they paid no heed and told me that it was normal. i compared it to my friends E90 which had no play or no noise. (they had no answer to this, rather no logical explanation of what so ever)
i feel that a particular batch of E90’s is problematic, thats what i feel when the guy told me that they have 200 of them there.
this needs further investigation, as if this is true, Nokia should be brought to justice for selling faulty products.
Apparently this problem is in Black E90’s only. Lets see what comes out of this.
well, its under warranty but this is not expected, atleast with Nokia.
thanks for sharing your thoughts.
I have similar experience with Nokia E90 the camera of the mobile stopped suddenly
only grains will come on the screen and after pressing the case hard near the camera it started working again.Plus the ususal there is no support
from the Nokia rs 40000 down the drain.
Nokia really dont care, it took them three weeks to send me my phone, then a month later it had to be sent back as it kept dieing on me. It took them a further 4 weeks to send me a new phone. Their customer service is just w**k, and everytime i phoned up to check on the status of my phone i was always told something completely different, as if they have to make up a lie on th spot. i will never ever buy a nokia agen simply because of the lack of inteligence they seem to have. sorry for going on but im so frustrated with their lack of compitance. Thankyou for letting me share my veiws with you, its good to get it out lol.

Wow..! thats News to be buddy. Ill check here, but I guess they still have a lot of stock. will update on this soon.
I have a Red E90 and today I tried to close it and the hinge was stuck. I hadn’t dropped it or anything but it seems like something is stuck on the inside. I can’t use the handset….. It’s a $1000 phone and it broke after 3 months.
My RAZR V3 lasted FOUR YEARS and I got it for FREE.
Nokia can suck a pickle.
I’ve had my nokia e90 for well over 16 months now.
My family owns restaurants across Canada. This means lots of traveling for me between locations and lots of traveling for catering functions.
I abuse my phones. From spilled sauces and juices to drops from pockets, my e90 has taken it in stride.
I also regularly go jogging and use the bluetooth function to my stereo bluetooth headphones while use sportstracker and the gps module, all works flawlessly and never skips a beat, even when occasionally dropped
Sorry to hear about your bad experience but you’ll have it back after its been fixed. Also remember why you bought it, its the only phone out there that can do what it does even 2 years after its release date.
Having said all that and you truly feel its a lemon, get another brand. However knowing the options(HTC, Iphone, Motorola)I do not believe you will be satisfied.
