Last Week : A Flashback
A lot of things happened round the corner of July which I missed to mention as I was out on a very important business meeting this weekend. Well Im back and following are the things that made my eyes wide open. Check’em out.
Let’s start with my favourite media sharing service Ovi
1. Files on Ovi Officially Launched
Even less than a month the beta service which was released in July, but today Files on Ovi shed its beta skin and go full-blown official. It is a new service for any Internet-ready mobile phone that enables you to share documents, PDFs, music, photos and more between your PC and your handset.
The idea is that you remotely access the content stored on your home machine, and share pretty much any sort of file with your friends or family via your mobile. Plus, you can even set it up so you can access files when your PC isn’t online or is sleeping, thanks to a feature called Anytime Files – these are backed up remotely on an online server that you can tap into regardless of what you’re PC is doing.
I really like the idea and would love to use the service. The only concern is about how safe is your information up there. Well, I feel it should be safe as you are paying for it contrasting it with free services like emails and other online storage sites.
You get two options when it comes to storage – either a 10GB package or 30GB deal. Start with a 30 day trial period and if you like the service you can choose from the following 3 packages. It only supports Windows at the moment. But I am pretty sure Mac and Linux are on way as well.
US dollars – 10GB $79.99 or 30GB $149.99
Euros – 10GB 49.99 or 30GB 99.99
GBP – 10GB 39.99 or 30GB 74.99
2. Google Maps mobile takes public transport

I know this sounds great but at the moment it is limited to only 50 cities and its focused mainly on the US mainland. Im sure Google is working in to put more cities in as well. Google Maps for mobile has introduced a Transit element, enabling you to get directions and plan your route using public transport. It’s in its early days and it does let you check bus and train timetables, fare prices and get step-by-step instructions. Google has teamed up with transit agencies around the world to help them get hold of the information needed to supply this service, although currently it’s mostly US focussed.
The search has also been treated to a speed boost, meaning you’re able to find location-based info and local services faster than before. Plus, when you search for a business, if it has user rating info it shows up as in star rating from beneath the listing, making it easier to determine which service is the best in your area.
Check the following video from people at Google and see what they have now to offer.
3. Samsung INNOV8 Launched : The New S60 Sensation

The first thing you notice is the 8 MP Camera. This top of the range camera technology, a surround-sound cinematic video experience, the best mobile internet browsing experience and mobile gaming capabilities. The Samsung INNOV8 has the latest in imaging applications such as smile shot, blink shot and face recognition allowing memorable moments to be stored in their best quality. Users can also personalize and edit their photos, videos and music with Movie Maker and Story Board applications. The handset also acts as a digital photo frame, allowing users to display their favourite images. For the gamers, the Samsung INNOV8 comes pre-embedded with two of the worlds most famous games, Asphalt and FIFA 08. Additional features include an optical mouse and 4-way navigation key for enjoying PC-like browsing experience. And HSDPA high speed Internet and WiFi connection offer convenient and seamless internet experience wherever users are.

4. Open At Own Risk

The Guru has the latest on the Open At Own Risk saga. Lately the site started displaying the a take down notice, but as of today the story had taken yet another turn and reared its head again. Across the world, the Download! Application which is pre-installed in Nokia phones is holding the key to the secret. If you recall, the story goes that long long ago, a bunch of royal families got together to create a video and this video was supposed to be the weirdest thing ever created, and it actually ended up too weird to show anyone, so it was buried.
The Download! application contains a folder called “Secret” which houses an application that can unlock the video and a wallpaper and a ringtone to go along with it. In order to open the application, a 4 digit code is required. This is probably based on the three historical events mentioned in the original teaser: Edison’s Lightbulb, the Wright Brothers plane, and Apollo 11. (I’m yet to try and figure this one out, anyone had any luck?) Screenshots and download links for the wallpaper and ringtone below for those of you who can’t find the Secret folder in the Download! application.
