E51 – The Complete Review

June 11th, 2008 | 2 Comments | by Sehaj | Share

Hello Readers,

I currently use a Nokia E51 so i would like to review this phone.

E-51

Let the REVIEW begin

1. Design:

The dimensions of the phone are 114.8 x 46 x 12 mm, 61 cc with a weight of 100g. This is what the specifications say, but it sure feels more sleek.
I personally love the design of the phone when you hold the phone it kind of grips your hand gives a very complete feeling when you hold it. I have no qualms about saying that this is one of the best looking e-series phones that nokia has come out with, Nokia has been able to fit in so many features including wi-fi into a very stylish design. It comes in two colors black and silver, the back one (i have) has a very elegant finger sensitive design on the back cover. The image will show. The keys are another high point with dedicated keys for calendar, phonebook, messaging along with the gallery keys.

2. Display:

The e51 boasts of a TFT, 16M colors and a screen size of 2 inches and a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels. The size being a factor i think the screen resolution is really good though web-browsing sometimes is a little difficult, but then this phone will cater to those people who want full features and dont want to compromise with the size and design and I dont see them complaining about the web-surfing experience.

3. Features:

This phone comes with Symbian OS 9.2, Series 60 v3.1 UI which is the high point of the phone. The phone is wi-fi enabled (WLAN Wi-Fi 802.11b/g, VoIP over WLAN), the web-browser is WAP 2.0/xHTML, HTML. The other features which this phone boasts of are:

-2 MP, 1600×1200 pixels, video(QVGA@15fps) [Well this is where i feel Nokia could have done a little better]
- Push to talk
- Java MIDP 2.0
- MP3/AAC/video player
- FM radio
- Document viewer
- T9
- Voice command/memo
- PIM including calendar, to-do list
- Integrated handsfree
-3G HSDPA, 3.6 Mbps
-Bluetooth v2.0 with A2DP
-Infrared port
-USB v2.0 miniUSB

So you can imagine for yourself that it is indeed a very power packed device.

4. Battery:

The Phone comes with a Standard battery, Li-Ion 1050 mAh ( BP-6MT) with a standby time of Up to 310 hrs and a talk time of up to 4 hrs. I love the battery of this device it is amazing you have to use it to experience it.

5. Memory:

The phonebook can practically store unlimited entries and fields, call records are stored for a max 30 days. The card slot is microSD (TransFlash), up to 8GB, hotswap, the Phone memory is huge 130 MB user data memory 96 MB SDRAM memory and the phone comes with a ARM 11 369 MHz processor. We’ll to make it all easier you will never have a problem with the phone functioning. It rarely hangs, All applications run very smoothly on the phone.

6. Price:

The phone is approx worth $300 which is quite cheap keeping in mind the feature.

The only thing lacking in this device if there is something is 3.5 mm jack as this device comes with a regular 2.5 mm jack

Conclusion:

Nokia with the E51 has been able to come out with a effective mid-tier phone. This phone boasts of a swanky design and all most all the important features required in a good business phone. This phone is in my view an endeavor to combine functionality and looks.

My Verdict : 8.9/10

We are coming up with another review shortly and we will highlight the + points and the – points in a more complete manner.

My Co-editor Sehaj is on way with his hands on the sleek Eseries s60 device.

Any feedback is welcomed. Tell us what you want us to review and we will do happily that.

  2. Russell Says:

Hi Ani. Enjoying your site/blog. Just wondered whether you’re still using your E51 as your main phone. I have an E71 which I love but sometimes find the QWERTY keyboard a pain & really want a smaller E71 with an alphanumeric/T9 keypad. I’m also a lover of the old 6310i format - I used to have one & it was the best phone ever but times change! Do you think I’d be happy getting an E51 or would I miss my E71? Would appreciate your comments…
